Family (Business) Fun

St. Croix Sensory has been a family business for over 40 years, but common goals don’t always translate into shared experiences. In fact, aligning the
schedules of multiple generations can be quite a challenge!

This made St. Croix Sensory’s recent trip to the AWMA conference in Toronto, all the more sweet.

In May, St. Croix Sensory founders, Donna and Chuck McGinley and eldest daughter, Kelly Herbster, joined current President and son, Michael McGinley, for a week of shared work and play in Toronto.

There was plenty of work to share. St. Croix Sensory was a gold sponsor of the AWMA event, with Chuck McGinley delivering the keynote address and Michael McGinley and Thomas Vallarino presenting a paper on “Odour Threshold Determination: Assessor Selection through Multiple Reference Odorants”.

In between the events, there were also plenty of opportunities to play.Throughout the week, the US and Canadian crew enjoyed a tour of the laboratory in Burlington, a Twins vs. Blue Jays game (with mixed allegiances), a special Mother’s Day Brunch, shopping at the Easton Centre Mall, the Distillery District and, to top it off, a celebration of St. Croix Sensory Canada’s 1st Anniversary at the lovely Fox on John.  Rumors of karaoke remain unconfirmed…

The Toronto visit was a good reminder: Family Business starts with family.

St. Croix Sensory remains grateful for the opportunity to enjoy both.
