Mike McGinley traveled to Houston this October for ASTM standard development meetings and was presented with the E18 Sensory Evaluation Committee Award of Merit.
The merit award recognizes:
- Marked leadership within E18, including at the task group and subcommittee level
- Outstanding contribution of an original nature
- Continuing contributions sustained over an 8-10 year period that has advanced the E18 Committee.
For over 15 years, Mike has contributed to Committee E18 on Sensory Evaluation, developing sensory standards for methods and approaches in categories beyond food.
It has been a joy to be part of the ASTM E18 Sensory Evaluation committee and I am honored to be recognized by my colleagues. While the award recognizes my involvement and contributions to the committee, the time I have put into ASTM standard development has returned to me a significant amount of professional experience and growth. Even more enjoyable, has been the experience of mentorship from industry leaders and the professional friendships that have been fostered through interactions with colleagues.

Mike continues to work with Committee E18 on sensory standards and is currently leading task groups to develop multiple odor related standards.
