“Basics of Odor Measurement Techniques” at COE

The Central States Water Environmental Association (CSWEA) and Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA) Conference on the Environment was held in Minneapolis, MN on November 7th .

St. Croix Sensory enjoyed meeting with hundreds of environmental professionals on the exhibit floor, including clients and peers. 

SCS President, Michael McGinley presented “Basics of Odor Measurement Techniques” which explored the history of odor measurement methods, including laboratory and field olfactometry and other field-testing methods to address nuisance odors. 

The presentation reviewed the components of FIDOS (Frequency, Intensity, Duration, Offensiveness and Susceptibility) as predictors of environmental complaints as well as the value of olfactometry, intensity reference scales and character wheels for collecting quality odor data.
